It’s fair to say we are all a product of our environment, we reflect the objects, people, and places we are surrounded by. Similarly in art, the subject matter or interest of an artist most likely reflects an ongoing dialogue they have with their direct environment. What then does Minji Kim reflect with ?hgual t'nod sdrib taht dias ohW, a word play on two of her recent installation pieces presented at The Lighthouse.

Having moved to Europe from Seoul, after being formed in New York, she brought with her a newfound skepticism in the production of artwork, resulting in a search for a new abstract approach. As a result, over the years, she has consciously tried to produce less work, instead, exploring the minute detail and dynamics of a new and unfamiliar domestic life she found herself in. All the works are borne from the artist’s mundane interactions with her experiences at home. What we find in them is something very familiar and simple, yet it remains foreign and difficult to read.

This will be her first solo in Europe, within a more conventional space, following a career that spans three continents. MinJi Kim lives and works in Belluno, Italy, and Seoul, South Korea. She is an installation artist and a co-curator of mezzaterra11 - flat gallery, Belluno, Italy.
